Bush, GOP Struggle for Public Approval

Bush, GOP Struggle for Public Approval

By RON FOURNIER,

AP Political Writer
Fri Apr 7, 7:31 PM ET

President Bush has hit new lows in public opinion for his handling of Iraq and the war on terror and for his overall job performance. Polling also shows the Republican Party surrendering its advantage on national security.
The AP-Ipsos survey is loaded with grim election-year news for a party struggling to stay in power. Nearly 70 percent of Americans believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction — the largest percentage during the Bush presidency and up 13 points from a year ago.
"These numbers are scary. We've lost every advantage we've ever had," GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio said. "The good news is Democrats don't have much of a plan. The bad news is they may not need one."
Democratic leaders predicted they will seize control of one or both chambers of Congress in November. Republicans said they feared the worst unless the political landscape quickly changes.
There is more at stake than the careers of GOP lawmakers. A Democratic-led Congress could bury the last vestiges of Bush's legislative agenda and subject the administration to high-profile investigations of the Iraq war, the CIA leak case, warrantless eavesdropping and other matters.
In the past two congressional elections, Republicans gained seats on the strength of Bush's popularity and a perception among voters that the GOP was stronger on national security than Democrats.
Those advantages are gone, according to a survey of 1,003 adults conducted this week for The Associated Press by Ipsos, an international polling firm.
On an issue the GOP has dominated for decades, Republicans are now locked in a tie with Democrats — 41 percent each — on the question of which party people trust to protect the country. Democrats made their biggest national security gains among young men, according to the AP-Ipsos poll, which had a 3 percentage point margin of error.
The public gives Democrats a slight edge on what party would best handle Iraq, a reversal from Election Day 2004.
As for Bush's ratings:
_Just 36 percent of the public approves of his job performance, his lowest-ever rating in AP-Ipsos polling. By contrast, the president's job approval rating was 47 percent among likely voters just before Election Day 2004 and a whopping 64 percent among registered voters in October 2002.
_Only 40 percent of the public approves of Bush's performance on foreign policy and the war on terror, another low-water mark for his presidency. That's down 9 points from a year ago. Just before the 2002 election, 64 percent of registered voters backed Bush on terror and foreign policy.
_Just 35 percent of the public approves of Bush's handling of Iraq, his lowest in AP-Ipsos polling.
"He's in over his head," said Diane Heller, 65, a Pleasant Valley, N.Y., real estate broker and independent voter.
Some past presidents' job approval ratings have dropped lower than Bush's. Harry Truman in 1952, Richard Nixon in 1974, Jimmy Carter in 1979 and the first George Bush in 1992 saw their ratings fall to the mid- to high 20s, according to Gallup polling.
Many have sunk as low as this president. Bill Clinton was at 39 percent in the late summer of 1994 — before midterm elections that were disastrous for Democrats. Ronald Reagan was at 35 percent in January 1983 before rebuilding his support. Lyndon Johnson was at 36 percent in March 1968, just before announcing he would not run for re-election during the Vietnam War.
As bad as Bush's numbers may be, Congress' are worse.
Just 30 percent of the public approves of the GOP-led Congress' job performance, and Republicans seem to be shouldering the blame.
By a 49-33 margin, the public favors Democrats over Republicans when asked which party should control Congress.
That 16-point Democratic advantage is the largest the party has enjoyed in AP-Ipsos polling.
"I think we will win the Congress," Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean said, breaking the unwritten rule against raising expectations.
Rep. Tom Reynolds, R-N.Y., head of the House Republican campaign committee, said Bush's woes won't hurt GOP candidates.
"When we get to the ballot this year, there's not going to be President Bush on the ballot, and there's not going to be in my view, 'Do you want to vote with the Republicans or Democrats?' It's going to be, 'How do you feel about your member of Congress?' And if our members are doing their work and our candidates are connecting with the issues of those districts, they're going to do fine," Reynolds said.
Democrats need to gain 15 seats in the House and six in the Senate for control, no easy task in the best of circumstances.
The Democratic strategy is to nationalize the elections around a throw-the-bums-out theme keyed to a burgeoning ethics scandal focused on relationships between GOP lobbyists and lawmakers.
Democrats also need hordes of GOP voters to stay home on Election Day out of frustration. Nobody can predict whether that will happen, but a growing number of Republicans disagree with their leaders in Washington about immigration, federal spending and other issues.
Bush's approval rating is down 12 points among Republicans since a year ago. Six in 10 Republicans said they disapproved of the GOP-led Congress.

South Park has One Peabody Award, Bill O'Reilly has Zero Peabody Awards.

Comedy Central's "South Park" won its first Peabody Award,
this past Wednesday ,winning praise from judges as TV's boldest, most politically incorrect satirical series.

The Peabody Awards, for broadcasting excellence in both news and entertainment, are givenannually by the University of Georgia. Thirty-two awards will be handed out June 5 in New York, hosted by two-time recipient Jon Stewart, who anchors Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."

So, just to be clear about the score:South Park has One Peabody Award, Bill O'Reilly has Zero Peabody Awards.

One reason O'Reilly hates Al Franken is because Franken exposed O'Reilly for lying about that.O'Reilly kept bragging, again and again, how he'd won Two Peabody Awards, so Al looked it up.

Turns out, O'Reilly had Zero Peabody Awards, so Al Franken started calling him on it.If only O'Reilly was as good at his job as the South Park dudes.

TRUE PATRIOT ACTION ALERT:

TRUE PATRIOT ACTION ALERT: HELP LOBBY GOD ON
BEHALF OF INDICTED ETHICS POSTERCHILD TOM DeLAY
BY RECITING "THE HAMMER'S PRAYER"Official National
Appeal to the Almighty

President Bush urges all Americans to show their support for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, during this, his hour of pitiable martyrdom. Gather your family together today, and pray ALOUD to God so that Tom shall prevail over the VICIOUSLY FACT-OBSESSED conspiracy indictment filed against him.

THE HAMMER'S PRAYER:

Our Thomas, who art in Congress,Hallowed be thy ethics.
Thine indictment come.
Thy will undone.
By some bitter pinko in Texas.
Give us this day our daily graft.
And bequeath us our gerrymanders,As we bequeath squat to poor, colored trash.
And lead us not into taxation,But deliver us from mercy.
For thine is the vitriol,And the avarice,And the goose step. For ever and ever.
Amen.

"Take it from me, girls – there's no good reason to rush into S-E-X. That's why I hope these scientific facts help you choose abstinence, so you need never know the heartbreak of being trapped in a loveless marriage just because you drank too many margaritas one night and gave up your honey pot to a pushy young cokehead from a so-called 'good family.'"

1. Unlike your girly privates, which are internal, boy privates are external. God knew that nobody wanted to see all our lady mess, so He pushed everything up inside you. What in tarnation He was thinking when he came up with that nasty, dangling, squishy flesh on boys beats the heck out of me, but I suspect it was so it would be easier for Him to keep an eye on what they're up to. Because trust me: that grotesque grab bag of horror and disappointment is always up to something, gals.

2. Boy privates are often said to resemble hot dogs, although if you ask me, the ones I've seen always called to mind something like those cute little Austrian cocktail weenies they sell 8 to a can. But I think famed author Lynne Cheney described the male unmentionable best when she recalled recoiling at "an old Frankenstein's monster bratwurst that looked like it had rolled under the couch for a month and got covered in dust bunnies and would make you spit up if you even so much as halfheartedly nibbled the tip of it."

3. Though erotically sensitive just like girl nipples, boy nipples are NOT privates – yet. But my husband and I are working hard to instill a sense of sexualized body shame so acute, that one day soon boys will learn that their nipples are dirty little things that will get them – just like you! – arrested when they strut around topless at Myrtle Beach. America is not some big, old licentious San Tropez and it's time all of you out there realized it!

4. The stuff that comes out of boys every time they use you has as many calories as seven whole pints of Häagen-Dazs. That's why all the girls who do "it" always get so fat and ugly and have that ulcerated skin that screams to everyone in church, "I am an insatiable slut!"

5. While almost all American boys have human-looking privates, most foreign boys have privates like German Shepherds or half-open tubes of Max Factor lipstick.

6. Because boys use the business end of their privates as a pipe for going number one, touching it is pretty much the same as taking a bath in a Mexican's toilet.

7. If you play your cards right, the revolting little wrinkled purse part of boy privates is something a Christian lady can go throughout her entire life without ever seeing. But knowing where it is can come in mighty handy when called upon to give a "not until marriage" warning kick.

8. When a boy's disgusting private goes inside of a girl's shameful unmentionable, there is a serious risk of it breaking off and causing excruciating pain while it travels throughout your body like a giant trichinosis worm.

9. Up until the moment in your wedding when he says "I do," a boy's privates sport a treacherous spine of jagged scales, which may or may not secrete acid and weapons-grade anthrax – for which, apparently, only Ann Coulter has developed the antibodies.

10. God designed a boy's privates as part sword, part battering-ram, to joyously stab and hammer you with on the magical night you begin your life-long tethering to the man who'll liberate you from the drudgery of ever having to make your own decisions – except when to have a headache or give an "I don't like this" bite.

Former Head Of Star Wars Program Says Cheney Main 9/11 Suspect

The former head of the Star Wars missile defense program under Presidents Ford and Carter has gone public to say that the official version of 9/11 is a conspiracy theory and his main suspect for the architect of the attack is Vice President Dick Cheney.

Dr. Robert M. Bowman, Lt. Col., USAF, ret. flew 101 combat missions in Vietnam. He is the recipient of the Eisenhower Medal, the George F. Kennan Peace Prize, the President’s Medal of Veterans for Peace, the Society of Military Engineers Gold Medal (twice), six Air Medals, and dozens of other awards and honors. His Ph.D. is in Aeronautics and Nuclear Engineering from Caltech. He chaired 8 major international conferences, and is one of the country’s foremost experts on National Security.

Bowman worked secretly for the US government on the Star Wars project and was the first to coin the very term in a 1977 secret memo. After Bowman realized that the program was only ever intended to be used as an aggressive and not defensive tool, as part of a plan to initiate a nuclear war with the Soviets, he left the program and campaigned against it.

In an interview with The Alex Jones Show aired nationally on the GCN Radio Network, Bowman stated that at the bare minimum if Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda were involved in 9/11 then the government stood down and allowed the attacks to happen. He said it is plausible that the entire chain of military command were unaware of what was taking place and were used as tools by the people pulling the strings behind the attack.

Bowman outlined how the drills on the morning of 9/11 that simulated planes crashing into buildings on the east coast were used as a cover to dupe unwitting air defense personnel into not responding quickly enough to stop the attack.

"The exercises that went on that morning simulating the exact kind of thing that was happening so confused the people in the FAA and NORAD....that they didn't they didn't know what was real and what was part of the exercise," said Bowman

"I think the people who planned and carried out those exercises, they're the ones that should be the object of investigation."

Asked if he could name a prime suspect who was the likely architect behind the attacks, Bowman stated, "If I had to narrow it down to one person....I think my prime suspect would be Dick Cheney."

Bowman said that privately his military fighter pilot peers and colleagues did not disagree with his sentiments about the real story behind 9/11.

Bowman agreed that the US was in danger of slipping into a dictatorship and stated, "I think there's been nothing closer to fascism than what we've seen lately from this government."

Bowman slammed the Patriot Act as having, "Done more to destroy the rights of Americans than all of our enemies combined."

Bowman trashed the 9/11 Commission as a politically motivated cover-up with abounding conflicts of interest, charging, "The 9/11 Commission omitted anything that might be the least bit suspicious or embarrassing or in any way detract from the official conspiracy so it was a total whitewash."

"There needs to be a true investigation, not the kind of sham investigations we have had with the 9/11 omission and all the rest of that junk," said Bowman.

Asked if the perpetrators of 9/11 were preparing to stage another false-flag attack to reinvigorate their agenda Bowman agreed that, "I can see that and I hope they can't pull it off, I hope they are prevented from pulling it off but I know darn good and well they'd like to have another one."

A mainstay of the attack pieces against Charlie Sheen have been that he is not credible enough to speak on the topic of 9/11. These charges are ridiculed by the fact that Sheen is an expert on 9/11 who spends hours a day meticulously researching the topic, something that the attack dogs have failed to do, aiming their comments solely at Sheen's personal life and ignoring his invitation to challenge him on the facts.

In addition, from the very start we have put forth eminently credible individuals only for them to be ignored by the establishment media. Physics Professors, former White House advisors and CIA analysts, the father of Reaganomics, German Defense Ministers and Bush's former Secretary of the Treasury, have all gone public on 9/11 but have been uniformly ignored by the majority of the establishment press.

Will Robert Bowman also be blackballed as the mainstream continue to misrepresent the 9/11 truth movement as an occupation of the fringe minority?

Bowman is currently running for Congress in Florida's 15th District.

Critics Blast Bush For Not Praying Hard Enough

Critics Blast Bush For Not Praying Hard Enough

April 6, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC—President Bush, already facing the lowest approval ratings in history, is coming under fire from former supporters over what they call his "ineffectual and incompetent" use of prayer for national guidance and assistance.

George W. Bush

"Every time the president is criticized, he insists that the nation is in his prayers," said the Family Research Council's Bob Jensen. "That may be, but it's becoming more and more clear that these prayers are either too infrequent, too brief, or not strongly worded enough to be effective."

Jensen added: "This nation deserves more than a president who just pays lip service to prayer. It deserves a president who demands that his prayers get real-world results."

Despite assurances from the president that he "prays every day" for the nation's interests both at home and abroad, the mounting crises of recent months—escalating gas prices, the botched Dubai port security deal, ethics scandals, and the rising death toll in Iraq—have left many unimpressed with the effectiveness of his devotion.

Francine Gundersen, an Iowa mother and churchgoer, says she voted for Bush but is now having doubts about his commitment to prayer, particularly with regard to Iraq, where her son, P.F.C. Jason Gundersen, has served since June 2004.

"Bush says he prays for the soldiers' safe return, but if that's the case, where is my son, Mr. President?" she said.

The White House Office of Communications, which has denied any wrongpraying, released transcripts of Bush's inner dialogues with God from May 12 through Oct. 22, 2005 and tried to paint the president as "very close" to the Almighty, saying he speaks with Him "regularly."
"The president spends many hours each day alone in quiet contemplation," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said. "These allegations are, quite simply, absurd. The president is as strong a prayer as any who has occupied the White House."

In an interview on Fox News, Vice President Dick Cheney defended Bush, saying the president puts as much energy into prayer as he does into domestic policies.

"Half the time, I can't even get him on the phone because he's busy praying for the American people, the same people who are now so quick to criticize him," Cheney said. "If something's wrong with those prayers, I would suggest that it's perhaps the fault of a supernatural entity. But it's not the president's. He is doing his duty."

While newly released portions of White House prayer logs show that Bush's praying has actually gone up in recent months, critics are seeking to subpoena the documents in their entirety to determine the strength of those prayers.

The harshest criticisms continue to come from members of the president's conservative base, who insist that the proper devotional words must be used in prayer.

"There is a real possibility that the president misrepresented the number of times he invokes Jesus' power each day in accordance with the strict guidelines of scripture," said Henry Holbrook, senior fellow at the Intercession Institute, a leading conservative prayer tank. "Is he clasping his hands together tightly enough? Is he using the proper forms of the pronouns 'thine' and 'thou'? What about the verb 'hast'?"

Susan DiDomenico of the National Prayer Task Force said her organization is seeking "full disclosure" of any and all prayers Bush may have skipped or manipulated to seem more effective or holy.

FLAGS

Rep. Virgil H. Goode, Jr.
US House of Representatives

Dear Rep. Goode,

I applaud your recent statement condemning those who wave Mexican flags at immigrant human rights rallies, but I worry that such comments might come back to haunt you. How will you respond when some French-loving traitor asks you why you don't also condemn our Confederate patriots who proudly wave the Stars and Bars at rallies and parades? You can't just simply say that it's OK because they're white--not in public, anyway.

Let's think about this for a minute. On the one hand, we have a flag belonging to a country we invaded because they stood between us and Manifest Destiny. We were the victors in that war and took most of what is now the Western United States as our prize.

On the other hand, we have a flag flown by those who wished to tear the United States apart. Although it represents all that Godly men like you and me revere, it is symbolic of treachery and racism to most everyone else.

I don't think we have a winning argument there. Let's look at it another way.

What do The Mexican War and The War of Northern Aggression have in common? Do you remember your history? The answer is that Abraham Lincoln was on the wrong side of both. In the decade before he waged war on our beloved Confederacy, he spoke out against the Mexican War. Indeed, he was that era's Michael Moore. He believed it was an unnecessary war based on lies and fought solely for corporate gain.

I think that's our hook. You've attacked Lincoln in the past, so using that old emancipating tyrant to tar both Confederate flag haters and Mexican flag wavers makes perfect sense

Homeland Security Official Arrested

By MICHELLE SPITZER,

Associated Press WriterTue Apr 4, 10:55 PM ET

The deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was arrested Tuesday for using the Internet to seduce what he thought was a teenage girl, authorities said.

Brian J. Doyle, 55, was arrested at his residence in Maryland on charges of use of a computer to seduce a child and transmission of harmful material to a minor. The charges were issued out of Polk County, Fla.

Doyle, of Silver Spring, Md., had a sexually explicit conversation with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl whose profile he saw on the Internet on March 14, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The girl was an undercover Polk County Sheriff's Computer Crimes detective, the sheriff's office said.

Doyle sent the girl pornographic movie clips and had sexually explicit conversations via the Internet, the statement said.

During other online conversations, Doyle revealed his name, that he worked for the Homeland Security Department and offered his office and government issued cell phone numbers, the sheriff's office said.

Doyle also sent photos of himself to the girl, but authorities said they were not sexually explicit.

On several occasions, Doyle instructed her to perform a sexual act while thinking of him and described explicit activities he wanted to have with her, investigators said.
Doyle later had a telephone conversation with an undercover deputy posing as the teenager and encouraged her to purchase a web camera to send graphic images of herself to him, the sheriff's office said.

He was booked into Maryland's Montgomery County jail where he was waiting to be extradited to Florida, the sheriff's office said.

There was no immediate response to messages left on Doyle's government-issued cell phone and his e-mail, and he could not be reached by phone at the jail for comment.

Homeland Security press secretary Russ Knocke in Washington said he could not comment on the details of the investigation. "We take these allegations very seriously, and we will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation," Knocke said.

Doyle, who is the fourth-ranking official in the department's public affairs office, was expected to be placed on administrative leave Wednesday morning.

Conservative Morals and Values file

Reporting stories from the Conservative Morals and Values file is getting to be a depressingly regular occurrence. Of course all of this was featured on Peabody Bill's the "FACTOR", as old Billy is an expert on sexual harassment tort law!

Redjax says:........

Yep, thats what the LIEberal's want for America.. and we are almost past the point of return to a better moral life,,

Tale of dubious conservative morals and values. Last month "An executive committee member of the Southern Baptist Convention was arrested on a lewdness charge for propositioning a plainclothes policeman outside a hotel, according to ChannelOklahoma.com.

Lonnie Latham was apparently arrested in an area of Oklahoma City "where the public has complained about male prostitutes flagging down cars" after he invited a plainclothes police officer to come back to his hotel room for oral sex.

In his defense, Latham said, "I was set up. I was in the area pastoring to police." Well, sure. If by "pastoring to police" he meant "seeking hot man-on-man blowjob action."

And wouldn't you know it, Latham has previously "spoken out against same-sex marriage and in support of a Southern Baptist Convention directive urging its 42,000 churches to befriend gays and lesbians and try to convince them that they can become heterosexual 'if they accept Jesus Christ as their savior and reject their 'sinful, destructive lifestyle.'"

Looks like he'll have to work a bit harder at that whole "convincing yourself you're heterosexual" thing. See you next week!

NEW: Jury awards $4.1 million

RAPID CITY - A federal jury in a sexual harassment case awarded a New Underwood woman more than $4.1 million in damages late Friday afternoon in a ruling against the woman’s former employer, Rapid City businessman Doug Hamilton. This of course is the same Doug Hamilton, who is the top GOP donor in the state of South Dakota

The jury found in favor of Celisity Klein-Cadotte and against Hamilton and his corporation, Barker & Little, Inc., for two counts of creating a sexual hostile work environment and two counts of retaliation. They found in favor of Hamilton on a fifth count of intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Klein-Cadotte said she was sexually harassed by Hamilton and then fired when she refused to sign a waiver against bringing future charges against him for such harassment. Hamilton claimed he fired her because he believed she was stealing money.

The jury deliberated for most of the day and delivered the verdict shortly after 5 p.m.

and then there is this ICEBERG........

Former lobbyist Tony C. Rudy pleaded guilty to conspiring with Jack Abramoff, Michael Scanlon and others to commit honest services fraud, mail and wire fraud, and a violation of conflict of interest post-employment restrictions, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division announced today.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Rudy faces up to five years in prison, a fine of $250,000,mandatory restitution estimated to be approximately $100,000 as well as supervised release following his incarceration. Rudy has agreed to cooperate with law enforcement officials in the ongoing investigation. Rudy's named co-conspirators, Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon, previously pled guilty in this investigation, and are also cooperating with law enforcement officials.

Four documents provide rich detail on Rudy’s activities and should be a must read for every lobbyist in town. The Justice Department press release provides general background on Rudy’s activities. The Information and Plea Agreement detail the specific acts and violations. In the Factual Basis for the Plea Rudy lists his activities relating to the Plea.

Bobby Stumbo just plain evil

Meet Bobby Stumbo, former Floyd County, Kentucky, Republican leader, who was recently charged with sexually abusing a five-year-old boy.

According to WKYT.com, "Police testified it all started when the boy returned home from his father's house and sat down with his mother. 'He kissed her, and when he kissed her, he stuck his tongue in her mouth. She asked him where he learned that, and the child told her Bobby did that to him, talking about Bobby Stumbo,' Detective Byron Hansford said."

Excuse me, I have to go throw up now.

Christian Soldiers

Christian Soldiers

Last week, representatives of the religion which claims at least 85% of Americans held a two-day conference in a posh Washington DC hotel to discuss how they're being oppressed. Actually, scratch that - these people are not representatives of the vast majority of American Christians. They really represent a radical right-wing fringe which seeks to use religion as a tool to gain political traction for their bigoted ideas. But of course, claiming that there is a "War on Prejudiced Fools Who Seek to Destroy the Separation of Church and State and Radicalize America With Their Own Warped Version of Christianity" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, so so they decided on "War on Christians" instead.

And oh, how they whined. "It doesn't rise to the level of persecution that we would see in China or North Korea," said activist Tristan Emmanuel, "But let's not pretend that it's okay." Doesn't rise to the level of persecution that we would see in China or North Korea? No kidding. In North Korea, Christians are executed. In America, the president is openly Christian, as is the vice president. And the Speaker of the House of Representatives. And the House Majority Leader, and the Senate Majority Leader, and the Attorney General, the Defense Secretary, the Secretary of State, and seven of the nine members of the Supreme Court. And 85% of the rest of the country. So one might indeed argue that it doesn't rise to "the level of persecution that we would see in China or North Korea."

Top speakers at the "War on Christians" event included Tom DeLay (under indictment for corruption in Texas), John Cornyn (a top recipient of funds from convicted felon Jack Abramoff), Sam Brownback (another top recipient of funds from Abramoff), and Gary Bauer (accused of adultery). And let's not forget Alan Keyes, who threw his daughter out of the house because she's gay.

The event also featured Michael Horowitz, who told the attendees, "You guys have become the Jews of the 21st century." Presumably he was referring to the 6 million American Christians who were gassed to death in Massachusetts concentration camps last year.

KATHERINE HARRIS

My Dear Kathrine,

Don't listen to your detractors. I think it's great that you've driven off your more secular-minded advisors like Ed Rollins, Adam Goodman, and Jamie Miller and given over control of your campaign to Dr. Dale Burroughs of the Biblical Heritage Institute.

I'm not usually very supportive of women doing God's work--or even being senators for that matter--but, after looking at Dr. Dale's credentials as one of our fiercest warriors in both the War On Love and the War on Women, I think you're in very good hands. Her work for one of the most vicious persecutors of homosexuals around, Rev. Don Wildmon's Arlington Group; her forced childbirth advocacy work with the Committee for Justice; and her tireless efforts promoting America for Jesus tell me all I need to know about her. Surely, she has what it takes to raise your campaign from the dead this Easter season.

Of course, you also bring something very special to your campaign: your miraculous Kabbalah water. Perhaps you and Dr. Dale could combine your specialties and use the magic water to turn homosexuals into heterosexuals or to make gynecologist's hands fall off or something. If it can cure citrus canker, it can certainly destroy homosexuals and OBG/GYNs.

Think of the video you could shoot for your ads. You storm into a Planned Parenthood clinic, throw your magic water into the face of the first person who tries to give you a condom, and their hands fall off. It'll scare the hell out of voters. They'll be too afraid to vote for anyone other than you.

You don't think that idea's too crazy do you? No, of course you don't--you're Katherine Harris.

The Spongebobbing of the Christ

With regard to your latest media effort, I think there are many of us who've wondered how it is possible that so many priests are pedophiles. Although we rejected the secularist explanation that the Church's repressive sexual policies were at fault, we had no reasonable theory to compete with it. Claims promoted by you and others that it was the result of a homosexual conspiracy did not ring true--too many of the assaults were heterosexual in nature.

Now, thanks to your collaboration with the makers of the documentary, Rape of the Soul, we finally have a satisfactory explanation for those despicable crimes: the priests' wills were subverted by subliminal images, ranging from penises to demonic faces, incorporated into sacred works of art.

Although this is certainly the best work you've done since Captain Kangaroo, I'm concerned that you may have overlooked the most important work of Christian art ever created, Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. It's a very powerful film, an orgy of blood, torn flesh, and suffering that's revived our faith and replenished our thirsty souls.

Yet there was something that always bothered me about it. At first, I was uncomfortable with the way it aroused me, but then I noticed that everyone in my Patriots of the Bible study group had the same reaction when we discussed the biblical justification for torture. That served as confirmation that I was aroused for the right reasons.

It was only after reading about Rape of the Soul that I considered the possibility that subliminal imagery might have been incorporated into The Passion of the Christ. A quick scan through the video proved this to be true. The clearest example comes in the scene where Jesus is carrying his cross through the streets of Jerusalem.

I'm enclosing a frame from that scene, along with an enhanced image for your examination. As you can see, it shows Spongebob Squarepants being orally pleasured by Tinky Winky as Alfred Kinsey takes notes. Seeing this, it's no wonder the film made me uncomfortable.
I don't see any references to The Passion of the Christ in the trailer for Rape of the Soul. I hope that doesn't mean that it isn't addressed in the film.

What will it take to dump Bunnypants?

What will it take to dump Bunnypants?

Bunnypant's popularity, according to the latest poll, stands at 34 percent. Considering that he got 47 percent of the vote a little over a year ago, his popularity has dropped by only about 13 percent during the intervening period.*All the unprecedented domestic and international disasters of those 14 months have convinced only an additional 13 percent of the American population that this man was never meant to be the leader of anything, much less the leader of the most powerful military power in the world! What will it take to convince the remaining 34 percent? This is not a rhetorical question. I am really curious to know...* I am being generous, by the way, with that "47 percent" figure. The real figure, considering all the fraud that went on in Ohio and elsewhere, was probably more like 45 percent, or even lower.

THE POWER OF SAYING NO

THE POWER OF SAYING NO

Jeff HalperThursday, March 23, 2006

As the new Hamas government is sworn into power in the Palestinian Authority, we might ask: What would bring a people, the most secular of Arab populations with little history of religious fundamentalism, to vote Hamas? Mere protest at Fatah ineffectualness in negotiations and internal corruption doesn't go far enough. While warning Hamas that their vote did not constitute a mandate for imposing an Iran-like theocracy on Palestine, the Palestinians took the only option left to a powerless people when all other avenues of redress have been closed to them: non-cooperation.

Gandhi put it best: "How can one be compelled to accept slavery? I simply refuse to do the master's bidding. He may torture me, break my bones to atoms and even kill me. He will then have my dead body, not my obedience. Ultimately, therefore, it is I who am the victor and not he, for he has failed in getting me to do what he wanted done. Non-cooperation is directed not against…the Governors, but against the system they administer. The roots of non-cooperation lie not in hatred but in justice."

This is not to equate Hamas with Gandhi, but merely to point out that non-cooperation, perhaps the most powerful means of non-violent resistance, arises in situations when the oppressed have no other avenues to achieve their freedom and their rights. Since it is the international community, the US, Israel and, yes, Fatah, who have closed all avenues of redress to the Palestinians, they carry the “blame" for the rise of Hamas. It is to them that the message of the Palestinian electorate is aimed: "To hell with all of you!"

To hell with the international community that closed off Palestinians’ appeal to international law and human rights conventions. Had only the Fourth Geneva Convention been applied, Israel could never have constructed its Occupation in the first place. International law defines an occupation as a temporary military situation that can only be resolved through negotiations. Therefore an Occupying Power such as Israel is prohibited from taking any unilateral action that makes its control permanent. Besides its military bases, every single element of Israel's Occupation is patently illegal: settlements and the construction of a massive system of Israel-only highways that link the West Bank settlements to Israel proper; the extension of Israel's legal and planning system into occupied Palestinian areas; the plunder of Palestinian water and other resources for Israeli use; house demolitions and the expropriation of Palestinian lands; the intentional impoverishment of the local population; military attacks on civilian populations -- to name but a few. Even when Israel’s construction of the "Separation Barrier" was ruled illegal by the International Court of Justice in the Hague and its ruling ratified by the General Assembly, nothing was done to stop it.

To hell with the United States that closed off negotiations as an avenue for redressing Palestinian rights and for enabling Israel to make its Occupation permanent. At the very start of the Oslo “peace process,” at Israel’s urging, the US reclassified the Palestinian areas from “occupied” to “disputed,” thus removing international law as the basis of negotiations and pulling the rug out from under the Palestinians. Had international law been respected, the Occupation would have ended under the weight of its own illegality. But once power became the only basis of negotiations, Israel easily overwhelmed the Palestinians. Until today Palestinians have nothing to look for in negotiations. With the Americans supporting Israeli unilateralism, with the US veto neutralizing the UN as an effective avenue of redress, and with European passivity, they have been cut adrift.

To hell with Israel that has closed off even the possibility of a viable Palestinian state by expanding into Palestinian areas. The mantra of Hamas “not recognizing Israel” is self-serving and cynical at best. Israel has never explicitly recognized the Palestinians’ right to self-determination, and it never negotiated with Abbas despite his government’s recognition. The world – and Israel, which wants land more than peace – ignored the Palestinians’ “generous offer” to Israel which could have ended the conflict: recognition within the 1967 borders in return for a Palestinian state in the Occupied Territories. Or in other words, an Israel on 78% of historic Palestine with the Palestinians – today a majority in the country – accepting a state only on 22%. Israel is now posed, with American support and international complicity, to make its Occupation permanent and reduce the Palestinians to a prison-state truncated into five “cantons” all controlled by Israel. No borders, no freedom of movement, no water, no viable economy, no Jerusalem, no possibility of offering a hopeful future to the traumatized, brutalized, undereducated, unskilled, impoverished Palestinian youth.

And to hell with Fatah that, in addition to enabling corruption, did not effectively pursue the Palestinians’ national agenda of self-determination. The Palestinian Authority ran its affairs removed from the people, failing to provide material and moral support to victims of Israeli attacks and policies of house demolitions. Most Palestinians did not vote Hamas (only 44% did), so the door was not closed on Fatah which, most Palestinians seem to hope, will learn its lesson from this setback.

Indeed, the vote for Hamas was not a closing of the door at all, but a rational, intentional and powerful statement of non-cooperation in a political process that is only leading to Palestinian imprisonment. Hamas, if anything, stands for steadfastness, sumud, the refusal to submit. But also resistance to Occupation. Knowing that the conflict is too destabilizing for the global system to let fester, the Palestinians are saying: You can all impose upon us an apartheid system, blame us for the violence while ignoring Israeli State Terror, pursue your programs of American Empire or your notions of a “clash of civilizations,” we the Palestinians will not submit. We will not cooperate. We will not play your rigged game. In the end, for all your power, you will come to us to sue for peace. And then we will be ready for a just peace that respects the rights of all the peoples of the region, including the Israelis. But you will not beat us.

As an Israeli Jew who sees how the Occupation has eroded the moral foundations of my society and, indeed, my entire people, and as a resident of Israel-Palestine who knows that my fate is intricately intertwined with that of the Palestinians, I pray that such an end will come sooner rather than later. As a member of civil society, I realize that the Palestinians have only one staunch ally: us, the people. Governments will not pursue peace and justice without our prodding. If the Palestinians remain steadfast and resist, it is our duty to actively support their fight for freedom and justice. Otherwise – to hell with us.

Pacifism vs Imperialism

Pacifism vs Imperialism

The saga of the four Christian peace activists taken hostage by the Iraqi Resistance several months ago, one of whom was killed by the captors, and three of whom were recently “rescued” by “coalition” forces under highly suspicious and mysterious circumstances, is a study in the interconnections and the complicity between imperialist propaganda and media distortions.

The media expect the former captives to be grateful to the “coalition” forces. What, exactly, are they to be grateful for? Are they supposed to be grateful to the ultimate causes and creators of their suffering, not to speak of the suffering of millions of Iraqis?

The media have offered a false paradox: Opponents of war have been freed by soldiers. But there is no paradox here. As long as there are wars, there will be active opponents of war, who themselves are more likely than the average non-participant to become a victim of war. Hence providing an opportunity for the warmongers to “rescue” them and try to justify the unjustifiable. Had there been no war on Iraq, would any of this have happened?

The peace activists have been urged to thank their “rescuers.” Rather, it should be the “rescuers” who should apologize to the former hostages for having made it necessary for them to place themselves in such a highly dangerous situation, for having endured months of captivity, and for being forced to waste so much energy opposing a worthless war which is a tissue of mendacity and falsehood.

Ultimately, it is the newsmedia who should be apologizing for having perverted the meaning of the four’s mission of peace into a justification for war.
